Commonwealth is a set of five Interstitial Castings commissioned by Buffalo Arts Studioin the summer of 2018 to document the social, physical, and emotional support provided by local health and human service organizations like Aspire WNY, Inc. iXpress, Cantalician/Diversified Labor Solutions, and the Buffalo Arts Studio Jump Start program. Interstitial Castings are negative space castings of people engaged in choreographies of the intimate. They are the space between two people enacting their relationship through gesture. The Buffalo Art Studio’s commission was an opportunity to investigate different communication strategies and reassess choreographies of the intimate that are often taken for granted like those of care and labor.
